Job summary

Lumen is seeking a Senior Linux Systems Administrator to design, secure, and operate Linux‑based infrastructure for a classified federal program. You’ll handle Ubuntu and RHEL, VMware ESXi/vCenter, and KVM virtualization, plus automation with Ansible, Bash, and Python.

The role includes CI/CD, LDAP/AD, SSL/TLS, Nessus scanning, and monitoring with Zabbix and Elastic Stack. This remote position is open to candidates nationwide in the United States, with 5–20% travel for on‑site engagements.

Qualifications

• Six+ years of experience in Linux systems, infrastructure, network, security, or platform administration.
• Advanced administration experience with Ubuntu and RHEL.
• Strong command-line proficiency, including Bash scripting.
• Designing and building production infrastructure from the ground up.
• Hands-on experience with VMware ESXi, vCenter, and vSphere.

Responsibilities

• Design and build secure Linux infrastructure from initial requirements through production implementation.
• Install, configure, administer, patch, harden, and troubleshoot Ubuntu and RHEL systems.
• Perform advanced command-line administration using Bash and standard Linux utilities.
• Administer VMware ESXi, vCenter, and vSphere environments including hosts, VMs, storage, and networking.
• Build and maintain KVM-based virtualization environments and migrations.
• Provision physical and virtual servers and integrate with network, storage, DNS, NTP, directory, monitoring, backup, and security services.
• LDAP/AD integrations including certificate trust and LDAP/LDAPS.
• Manage SSL/TLS certificate lifecycle and PKI concepts.
• Nessus vulnerability scanning infrastructure management and remediation support.
• Maintain monitoring/logging with Zabbix and Elastic Stack.
• Troubleshoot network connectivity and firewall issues.
• Create automation with Ansible, Bash, and Python.
• Use Git and GitLab CI/CD for infrastructure code and workflows.
• Read and modify apps built with Flask/Django as needed.
• Support REST API integration between apps and infra.
• Document build guides and recovery procedures.
• Participate in upgrades, incidents, capacity planning, and lifecycle management.
• Travel 5–20% for customer meetings and on-site servicing.
