Lumen is hiring a Senior Linux Systems Administrator to design, build, secure, operate, and maintain Linux-based infrastructure for a federal program. The role emphasizes advanced Linux admin work, virtualization (VMware/KVM), automation, authentication services, vulnerability management, and secure network connectivity.

The position is remote within the U.S. and requires handling CI/CD, API integration, and troubleshooting applications interfacing with security systems.

Qualifications

• Six or more years of Linux systems, infra, network, security, or platform administration.
• Advanced administration with Ubuntu and RHEL.
• Strong CLI proficiency and Bash scripting.
• Experience building production infrastructure from the ground up.
• Hands-on VMware ESXi, vCenter, and vSphere administration.
• Experience with KVM or similar virtualization technology.
• Experience with Nessus or comparable vulnerability-management tools.
• Experience managing SSL/TLS certificates and PKI concepts.
• Knowledge of LDAP/LDAPS and Active Directory integrations.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, NTP, firewalls, and network troubleshooting.
• Experience with Ansible automation and infrastructure as code.
• Python and Git knowledge; monitoring/logging tools such as Zabbix/Elastic Stack.
• Ability to diagnose across OS, virtualization, app, and network.
• Active TS clearance with current investigation/CI polygraph (if required).

Responsibilities

• Design and build secure Linux infrastructure from requirements through production handoff.
• Install, configure, patch, harden, and troubleshoot Ubuntu and RHEL systems.
• Perform advanced command-line administration using Bash and standard utilities.
• Administer VMware ESXi, vCenter, and vSphere environments, including storage and networking.
• Build and maintain KVM-based virtualization environments and migrations.
• Provision physical and virtual servers; integrate with network, storage, DNS, NTP, monitoring, and security services.
• Manage LDAP/AD integrations, including LDAPS, directory searches, and trust.
• Manage SSL/TLS certificates lifecycle and PKI concepts.
• Administer Nessus scanning infrastructure; analyze findings and drive remediation.
• Maintain monitoring/logging platforms like Zabbix and Elastic Stack.
• Troubleshoot network connectivity, routing, DNS, ports, firewalls, and NAT.
• Create automation with Ansible, Bash, and Python; use Git and GitLab CI/CD for IaC.
• Read/modify apps built with Flask or Django as needed.
• Support REST API integration across apps and infrastructure.
• Document build guides, diagrams, procedures, backups, and recovery steps.
• Participate in upgrades, incidents, capacity planning, and lifecycle management.
• Travel 5–20% for on-site meetings and hardware servicing.
