Job summary

GDH Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Software Engineer III - Java Backend (Tech Lead) to drive end-to-end service architecture and reliability for backend systems in a remote work setup.

You will define technical direction, mentor engineers, and push modernization from on-premises to cloud-native designs, with emphasis on event-driven patterns and observability. This role requires US work authorization and strong leadership.

Qualifications

• 8–10+ years of backend software engineering with production ownership.
• Proven leadership as a Tech Lead or senior IC.
• Strong Java/JVM backend design and operations.
• Hands-on AWS cloud experience and cloud-native patterns.
• Understanding of event-driven architectures and pub/sub.
• Production support experience including on-call and incident response.
• Strong testing, CI/CD, and code review discipline.
• Excellent communication and cross-team collaboration.
• Familiarity with legacy modernization, domain-driven design, containers, IaC, and observability tools.

Responsibilities

• Set and communicate technical direction, aligned with goals and priorities.
• Lead design and implementation of scalable, secure backend services and cloud modernization.
• Develop service APIs, data models, messaging patterns, and error handling strategies.
• Promote build-it / run-it ownership and support services in production.
• Drive system modernization using domain-driven and evolutionary architecture.
• Lead AI- and agentic-first engineering practices and automation in workflows.
• Establish guardrails via patterns, reference implementations, and lightweight reviews.
• Define quality, observability, and reliability standards (SLIs/SLOs, tests, monitoring).
• Collaborate with product, security, and platform teams for scalable solutions.
• Mentor engineers through design/code reviews and foster excellence.
