Job summary

Bechtel in Reston, VA seeks an experienced Estimator to prepare, review and present general and discipline-based estimates for heavy civil projects. You will analyze historical data and support estimate reporting and reviews to drive competitive bids.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in Estimating or Project Controls, with strong MS Word/Excel skills and knowledge of civil/rail/highway cost estimation practices. Telework options may be available; relocation assistance provided.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, business management or related field or 10+ years of experience.

Responsibilities

Performs quantity takeoffs for a discipline or commodity specialty using defined documents.
Prepares portions of estimates by contacting project team and others, including vendors, to develop and apply unit rates and installation rates to quantity takeoffs.
Produces cost estimates using crew-based approach including formation of crews from multiple crafts.
Provides input to estimate basis documentation capturing assumptions, rationale, scope inclusions and exclusions for specific contributions.
Create estimate summary presentations for estimate reviews.
Present estimate packages to Management during reviews.
Provides support for special estimating and other assignments, including post-Proposal support converting the estimate to a budget (budgeting, revenue loading, data entry and collection, etc.)
