Job summary

WEX is seeking a Remote Senior Software Engineer in the United States with 6–8 years of backend experience to help build the Beyond Fuel and Expense Management platform. You will contribute to architecture, design, and full-stack capabilities across web, mobile, and partner integrations.

You will work with Product, Design, Security, and engineering teams across the U.S. and India, advancing secure, scalable payment and expense management solutions while focusing on production readiness,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/SE or related field.
• 6-8 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms.
• Experience designing REST APIs, distributed systems, relational data models, and event-driven integrations.
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, and automated CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of authentication, authorization, data protection, and secure API design.
• Experience with unit, integration, end-to-end, and performance testing.
• Experience building and operating production services with monitoring and observability.
• Strong communication skills across multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to explain technical decisions clearly to engineering and business stakeholders.
• Track record of mentoring engineers and improving engineering practices.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants and development tooling.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement the Beyond Fuel and Expense Management platform architecture and APIs.
• Build full-stack capabilities across web UI, backend services, and integrations.
• Translate product requirements into concrete designs, milestones, and plans.
• Create reusable business capabilities and APIs for web, mobile, and partners.
• Define and implement payment workflows, expense capture, approvals, and spend controls.
• Evaluate tradeoffs related to performance, security, reliability, and costs.
• Write production-grade code and review peers' contributions.
• Participate in design and code reviews to uphold quality.
• Establish standards for testing, observability, and secure development.
• Build production readiness with logs, tracing, metrics, dashboards, and alerts.
• Leverage AI coding tools to accelerate development and refactor responsibly.
• Collaborate with engineering leaders to manage dependencies and risks.
• Own technical outcomes from initial implementation to deployment and operation.
