Job summary

Peraton is seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer to support the USGS Volcano Hazards Program. You will serve as an embedded technical contributor, designing, developing, documenting, and deploying a cloud‑ready database and data visualization tools for M&E workflows to benefit scientists and program managers across observatories.

You will build PostgreSQL/PostGIS databases, REST APIs in Python, and web/mobile dashboards with React, enabling monitoring, reporting and data-driven decision making.

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship required; must obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance; work in the United States.
• PostgreSQL / PostGIS — design, implement, optimize relational databases with spatial data types.
• Python Backend Development — RESTful APIs using FastAPI or Flask; ETL and automation scripting.
• JavaScript/TypeScript & React — modern front-end for responsive, accessible web apps.
• GIS / Geospatial Development — ArcGIS/ArcPy/GDAL/OGR; web mapping with PostGIS.
• API Design & Integration — API design, documentation, security, versioning best practices.
• Data Modeling & Metadata Management — data models and comprehensive data dictionaries.
• Cloud‑Ready Architecture — portable, cloud/hybrid deployment; containerization.
• Git / GitLab Version Control — branching, merging, code reviews, repo management.
• Section 508 / WCAG 2.0 Accessibility — accessible UI/semantics, keyboard navigation.
• Federal IT Security Compliance — FISMA/NIST/C&A processes.
• Technical Documentation — user guides, API references, deployment guides.
• Communication & Collaboration — cross-functional work with government stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Database Design & Development - design/implement PostgreSQL/PostGIS database to support M&E data; mobile access.
• API & Backend Development - RESTful APIs in Python (FastAPI/Flask); ETL and data ingestion.
• Front‑End & Visualization Development - React-based UI for data entry and reporting.
• GIS & Geospatial Visualization - web mapping with ESRI/Leaflet/Mapbox; integrate with backend.
• Cloud Readiness & Architecture - cloud/hybrid deployment and deployment documentation.
• Documentation - write user guides, data dictionaries, API references, deployment guides.
• Security & Accessibility - ensure 508 WCAG compliance and security standards.
• Collaboration & Communication - weekly check-ins with VHP staff and COR; progress updates.
• Travel - up to 3 on-site visits in 12 months for onboarding/integration.
