Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company seeks a Sr Field Underwriter for Commercial Lines (P&C Small Commercial). The role covers Tennessee and parts of Kentucky with 50–60% travel to agency partners; underwriting authority across Small Commercial business is required.

Based in or near Nashville is preferred, with a background in multi-line underwriting and agency management. Ideal candidates have 3+ years of underwriting experience, CPCU coursework, and strong sales and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Education: Undergraduate degree preferred; CPCU coursework highly desirable.
• Experience: Four to six years in commercial underwriting and/or portfolio management.
• Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of commercial underwriting practices, agency operations and field support.
• Skills/Competencies: Strong sales ability, effective presentations, and professional agency interaction.

Responsibilities

• Accept, reject, or modify new commercial lines business within delegated authority to ensure profitability.
• Underwrite and price according to guidelines; review apps and select business to quote or reject.
• Gather competitive data, perform loss control inspections, and compile reports.
• Conduct field inspections of accounts with or without agents and discuss findings.
• Maintain frequent agency visits to establish Nationwide as the provider of choice.
