Job summary

Cognizant is seeking a Principal Architect to translate complex client requirements into scalable, cloud-native engineering solutions and to drive the modernization of enterprise platforms. You will lead architecture across API and backend systems on AWS, using Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, Python, and MongoDB, collaborating with Product Owners, business analysts, QA teams, and client stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of architecture and hands-on engineering experience with Java, Spring Boot, microservices, and REST/SOAP APIs.
• Experience building secure, highly available cloud solutions on AWS (ECS/EKS, Lambda, IAM, API Gateway).
• Proven ability to lead enterprise platform modernization, legacy integration, CI/CD, observability, and engineering-quality practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead enterprise architecture and modernization across APIs and legacy platforms on AWS using microservices and event-driven patterns.
• Drive technical transition and delivery through knowledge acquisition, shadow, and reverse-shadow phases with clear handoffs.
• Provide hands-on engineering leadership, setting standards for Java/Spring Boot microservices, REST/SOAP APIs, Python workflows, Kafka, MongoDB, and AWS solutions.
• Own technical delivery governance with product owners and engineering teams on roadmaps, SLAs/KPIs, and delivery quality.
• Mentor client engineering teams and cross-functional stakeholders, translating business requirements into technical solutions.
