Job summary

Energy Sciences seeks an experienced energy engineer to help commercial and industrial clients reduce energy use and improve system performance through energy efficiency programs, assessments, and direct-to-client consulting services.

The role involves site surveys, technical analyses, reporting, and client-facing presentations, with up to 25% travel to customer sites in the Metro Detroit area. A strong background in energy auditing and building systems is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with seven years of engineering experience.
  • Non-degreed professionals may be considered with at least ten years of energy assessments experience.
  • Minimum five years focused on energy engineering, energy consulting, or building system performance consulting.
  • Preferred experience: utility energy efficiency programs, retro-commissioning, and building systems commissioning.
  • ASHRAE energy auditing levels I–III for commercial/industrial facilities.
  • Energy and economic analyses using trending, weather data, and regression analysis.
  • Using BMS for trending, field measurement, and verification work.
  • Developing calculators/tools/models to calculate energy savings.
  • Applying measurement and verification techniques to verify project implementation.
  • On-site work with commercial/industrial clients; writing reports and delivering presentations.
  • Knowledge of building systems (HVAC, lighting, pumps, etc.) and decarbonization strategies.
  • Proficiency with MS Office including advanced Excel.
  • Preferred certifications: CEM, CEA, CMVP, EBCP, and PE.

Responsibilities

  • Identifying and quantifying energy efficiency opportunities.
  • Performing energy and economic analyses.
  • Reviewing energy assessments, opportunities, and calculations.
  • Collaborating with customers and developing projects.
  • Preparing reports and delivering presentations.
  • Conducting site surveys, system investigations, and facilities assessments.
  • Mentoring and providing technical guidance to team members.
  • Supporting customers with utility energy efficiency programs.
  • Traveling to customer sites up to 25%.
