Job summary

Inside Climate News is seeking a Senior Editor to lead a reporting team of four to six journalists, guide daily and long-form editing, and collaborate with partner newsrooms. The role emphasizes mentoring fellows and shaping ambitious enterprise journalism on climate and environmental justice.

The ideal candidate brings 7–10 years as writer/editor, a proven track record in deadline and long-form work, and a deep commitment to climate coverage.

Qualifications

• A minimum of seven to 10 years’ work experience as both a writer and an editor; A body of work that includes deadline writing and editing, and both writing and editing significant long-form narrative, investigative or explanatory journalism, preferably all three.
• A demonstrated ability to nurture, support and challenge reporters to produce journalism of the highest quality and ambition.
• A deep personal embrace of the importance and urgency of covering the climate crisis in all the myriad ways it is affecting life and society, in the United States and across the planet.

Responsibilities

• Lead staff meetings, schedule and budget stories, brainstorm with staff and confer with reporters.
• Liaise with partner newsrooms and edit daily stories, takeouts, think pieces, series and enterprise journalism.
• Oversee day-to-day management of a reporting team of four to six members.
