Job summary

Scribe is seeking a Senior Database Reliability Engineer to own the reliability, performance, and scalability of the data tier. You’ll shape schemas, tune Aurora, review migrations, and build automation to scale with the engineering org.

The role emphasizes ORM-driven development, CDC, and cross-service data pipelines in a remote or San Francisco-hybred setting. You’ll work with PostgreSQL (Aurora), OpenSearch, Redis, SQS/RabbitMQ, and Snowflake, ensuring zero-downtime migrations and robust

Qualifications

• Strong PostgreSQL skills with MVCC, vacuum behavior, and lock handling.
• Fluency in Django or similar ORM; ability to predict generated SQL and spot inefficiencies.
• Production CDC experience; familiarity with logical replication and AWS DMS is a plus.
• Hands-on monitoring with CloudWatch; automation skills in Python or Go; Terraform experience.
• Experience with production message brokers (SQS, RabbitMQ) and AI coding tools.

Responsibilities

• Shape database schemas and access patterns; tune Aurora for latency and throughput.
• Review migrations for lock risks, backfills, and index considerations; avoid N+1 patterns.
• Build CI checks and automation to catch risky DB changes and ORM patterns.
• Plan capacity, safe schema cutovers, and multi-AZ resilience; manage backups and PITR.
• Maintain Aurora→Snowflake CDC flow; support OpenSearch, Redis, and queues.
• Mentor teammates; contribute to incident response and postmortems.
