Job summary

Sola is seeking a Senior Data Platform Engineer to own and operate the production data stack, including Redshift, MySQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Cube.js, and the associated ingestion pipelines. You will design scalable architectures, optimize performance, and implement IaC and security controls in a PCI DSS/SOC 2 environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of hands-on database administration across relational and NoSQL.
• At least 2 years of production Amazon Redshift experience with WLM and design.
• Strong MySQL and SQL Server administration, backup and restore, CDC, and upgrades.
• Working knowledge of PostgreSQL and leadership in schema design.
• PCI DSS or SOC 2 regulated environments experience.
• Diagnosing and resolving expensive query performance issues.
• Ability to design database architecture for new applications and maintain existing systems.
• Knowledge of DynamoDB data modeling and performance tuning.
• Experience with ElastiCache and caching strategies.
• AWS proficiency, scripting, and collaboration with engineers.

Responsibilities

• Own the performance, availability, and cost of the data warehouse and analytics layers.
• Administer and tune Cube.js as the analytics layer on Redshift.
• Manage production databases (MySQL/Aurora MySQL, SQL Server) incl. backups and patching.
• Lead PostgreSQL schema design for new services.
• Profile and tune queries and implement monitoring and alerting.
• Design data architectures and establish standards for scalability and data integrity.
• Own ingestion pipelines (DMS, CDC, Glue, Step Functions, EventBridge) end-to-end.
• Design DynamoDB tables and DynamoDB caching strategies.
• Operate and tune ElastiCache clusters (Redis/Memcached).
• Develop runbooks, DR procedures, and participate in on-call rotation.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Security on architecture reviews.
