Job summary

Patreon seeks a Senior/Staff Software Engineer, Data Infrastructure to architect and operate large-scale batch and streaming platforms powering product features, analytics, and experimentation.

You will stand up and scale event-driven systems (Kafka, Kinesis, PubSub) for real-time ingestion, build self-serve data platforms for engineers and analysts, and partner with broader teams to shape data architecture and governance.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with 4+ years in data/platform infrastructure.
• Experience architecting batch (Airflow, Dagster) and stream systems at scale (Spark, Flink, Kafka Streams).
• Familiarity with data quality, lineage, observability, and governance tooling.
• Strong Python and SQL skills; Java/Scala/Go a plus.
• Cloud familiarity and fluency across data stores (S3, MySQL/Postgres, DynamoDB, ClickHouse/ Pinot/ Druid, Elasticsearch).
• Excellent collaboration and communication; able to drive cross-functional decisions.
• Bachelor’s degree in CS/CE or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and operate large scale batch and streaming platforms powering Patreon features and analytics.
• Scale event-driven and streaming systems (Kafka, Kinesis, PubSub) for real-time data ingestion and delivery.
• Build self-serve data platforms for engineers, data scientists, and analysts to discover data safely.
• Partner with Infrastructure and Product teams to align data ecosystem with roadmaps.
• Develop tooling, monitoring, and observability for data platform reliability and performance.
• Mentor engineers on infrastructure and streaming best practices.
