Job summary

Patreon is seeking a Senior/Staff Software Engineer, Data Infrastructure to architect and operate large-scale batch and streaming platforms powering data products and experiments. You will stand up real-time data ingestion pipelines and build self-serve data tooling for engineers and data scientists.

You will mentor engineers, influence architectural decisions across storage, compute, and deployment, and collaborate with Product, Data Science, and Infrastructure teams to advance Patreon’s data

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years focused on data or platform infrastructure.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and broad fluency across data stores: Object storage (S3), RDBMS (MySQL, Postgres), DynamoDB, OLAP (Clickhouse, Pinot, Druid), Elasticsearch, and data synchronization patterns.
• Deep, hands-on experience architecting batch (Airflow/Dagster) and stream processing systems at scale (Spark/Flink/Kafka Streams).
• Strong programming skills in Python and SQL; Java/Scala/Go are a plus.
• Experience with Delta Lake/Iceberg, AWS, or Databricks.
• Experience supporting ML/AI workflows, training pipelines, or evaluation systems.
• Contributed to open-source streaming or infrastructure tooling.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and operate large-scale batch and streaming platforms powering Patreon features and analytics.
• Stand up and scale event-driven systems (Kafka, Kinesis, Pub/Sub) for real-time data ingestion and delivery.
• Build self-serve data platforms for engineers, data scientists, and analysts to safely discover data and define contracts.
• Collaborate with Infrastructure, Platform, and product teams to align data ecosystem with Patreon roadmap.
• Develop tooling, monitoring, and observability for data platform reliability and performance.
• Mentor engineers on infrastructure and streaming best practices; influence long-term roadmap.
