Job summary

9amHealth is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to own and evolve the data platform powering clinical operations and AI initiatives. You will build end-to-end data pipelines, craft analytical models, and contribute backend code, all within a Python-based AWS stack.

You will collaborate with clinical operations, product, and finance, while mentoring teammates and promoting engineering best practices in a startup environment with global teams and flexible work options.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional experience in data engineering or hybrid data/backend software engineering.
• Strong software engineering background with production-grade coding, testing, and shipping responsibilities.
• Expert-level Python for production data pipelines, ETL logic, and reporting systems.
• Expert-level SQL with window functions, CTEs, and performance tuning at scale.
• Hands-on experience with AWS data services (Glue, S3, Redshift, Athena) and IAM.
• Experience with Looker or Tableau and semantic modeling for self-service analytics.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted coding tools and modern AI development workflows.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT workflows in Python on AWS.
• Write production-grade Python code for DWH logic, reporting, and data transformations.
• Develop analytical data models (dimensional, slowly changing dimensions) for BI and analytics.
• Build dashboards and semantic layers in Looker/Tableau; own analytics infrastructure.
• Contribute backend code in Java or Python to support data-intensive features and APIs.
• Lead data quality, monitoring, and incident response for the data platform.
• Mentor junior team members and help establish coding standards and docs.
• Collaborate with clinical operations, product, and finance to translate questions into data products.
