Job summary

First Citizens Bank is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design, build and operate modern data pipelines in a cloud-based platform. You will implement batch and CDC ingestion, create dbt models, and develop Snowflake governance under established architectural patterns.

You will mentor junior engineers, collaborate with Leads, and contribute to CI/CD deployments and production support while driving performance and cost optimization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and 4 years of experience in Data engineering, data technologies, cloud platforms
• OR
• High School Diploma or GED and 8 years of experience in Data engineering, data technologies, cloud platforms

Responsibilities

• Design and build data pipelines using Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold).
• Implement batch and CDC-based ingestion pipelines from databases, files, and APIs.
• Support pipeline reliability, scalability, performance, and cost optimization.
• Develop and support ingestion pipelines using Qlik Replicate (snapshot and CDC).
• Build and extend Python-based pipeline components following existing frameworks.
• Develop dbt models using SQL and Jinja templating.
• Implement automated tests for data quality, freshness, and schema validation.
• Participate in CI/CD deployments of dbt transformations.
• Implement Snowflake ingestion patterns using Snowpipe and Tasks.
• Apply RBAC and data masking; governance in data access.
• Develop stored procedures and governance patterns.
• Develop and operate data workloads using AWS services (S3, Lambda, ECS Fargate, Glue, DynamoDB, IAM) or Azure equivalents.
