Job summary

Block's Cash App product data team is looking for a Data Engineer to design and optimize data models and pipelines across multiple products. You will enable engineering and business teams with robust datasets, dashboards, and analysis through a governance-driven foundation.

You will own core data pipelines, monitor data quality and lineage, and build AI-assisted automation to reduce manual toil while collaborating with product, engineering, and data science teams across the Block ecosystem.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of related data engineering experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years with a Master’s degree; or equivalent.
• High proficiency in SQL, Python, and Dbt.
• Experience designing medium-to-large data engineering solutions across the full lifecycle.
• Experience with ETL scheduling technologies like Airflow or Prefect.
• Experience in schema design and dimensional data modeling.
• Experience with data quality and data lineage monitoring.
• Experience with data-driven decisions through AI and agentic automation.

Responsibilities

• Lead the creation and optimization of data models across eventing, customer-level, and process-level data.
• Own critical data pipelines including foundational customer datasets and money transfer workflows.
• Build monitoring for data quality and lineage; develop AI agents for automation.
• Participate in on-call rotation; diagnose issues and maintain SLAs; automate tasks with AI.
• Collaborate with non-technical partners to translate business needs into data solutions.
