Job summary

OnBoard is seeking a seasoned Cloud Operations Engineer III to own the Datadog observability platform, drive automation, and lead incident response for a multi-product SaaS platform. You will work across teams to instrument services, define SLIs/SLOs, and build a scalable monitoring stack.

The role emphasizes proactive problem solving, on-call participation, and collaboration to reduce manual toil while improving service visibility and reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5–7 years of professional experience in cloud operations, site reliability, platform, or DevOps for production SaaS systems.
• Hands-on depth with modern observability platforms (Datadog preferred) including APM, logs, dashboards, monitors, and SLOs.
• Strong scripting and automation in PowerShell.
• Strong knowledge of containers and Kubernetes ecosystem with autoscaling and cluster upgrades.
• Production experience with Azure services (AKS, SQL, Cosmos DB, Redis, Service Bus, Key Vault, Entra ID) or equivalent cloud depth.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD (Bicep/Terraform; Helm/Kustomize; Azure DevOps).
• Incident response experience in customer-facing production environments, including on-call and post-incident reviews.
• Security and operational best practices: secret rotation, least-privilege access, vulnerability remediation.
• Excellent problem-solving and written communication for runbooks and incident updates.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills, with legacy system constraints.

Responsibilities

• Own the Datadog platform across all products and environments, including agent lifecycle and tagging.
• Instrument services for APM and tracing, log collection, and synthetic monitoring; close instrumentation gaps with engineering teams.
• Build and maintain dashboards, monitors, and SLO catalog; define SLIs and error budgets to guide prioritization.
• Design high-signal alerting with clear owners and runbooks.
• Develop and maintain automation in PowerShell, Python, and Bash for provisioning, diagnostics, remediation, and reporting.
• Extend IaC estate (Bicep, Kubernetes manifests, Helm, Terraform) for reproducible environments across regions.
• Automate runbooks: upgrades, rotation, provisioning, data purges, and access workflows.
• Author and maintain runbooks, on-call guides, and architecture docs; mentor junior engineers.
