Job summary

LaunchDarkly is seeking Senior Backend Engineers to design, build, and operate services powering reliable software delivery. You will own complex, high-impact work from problem definition through production and iteration, partnering with product and engineering teams to turn customer needs into scalable solutions.

You will work across APIs, distributed systems, data pipelines, SDK infrastructure, and backend platforms.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience building and operating production software
• Strong software engineering fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, testing, debugging, API design, and distributed systems concepts
• Deep experience with a backend language such as Go, Python, Rust, or an equivalent language (Most teams use Go)
• Experience leading technical projects with ambiguous requirements, multiple stakeholders, or cross-team dependencies

Responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of large or ambiguous backend projects with clear milestones
• Design, implement, test, and operate production services and APIs that are scalable, secure, observable, and maintainable
• Communicate tradeoffs across scalability, performance, reliability, security, and cost
• Identify architectural risks and drive durable improvements
• Improve observability and operability: metrics, logs, traces, alerts, and SLIs/SLAs
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Support, and Customer Success to deliver measurable customer outcomes
• Mentor engineers and strengthen team practices through feedback and collaboration
• Participate in production support and incident response with calm ownership
• Help evolve engineering practices and developer experiences
