Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to own core services that move institutional clients from application to first trade within the Client Lifecycle pillar of Institutional Foundations. You’ll build onboarding, provisioning, KYC workflows and an access-controls stack for Prime, while collaborating with Product, Compliance, and Ops teams.

You will work in a remote-first company that values high performance and accountability.

Qualifications

5+ years of production backend experience in a service-oriented architecture.
Proficiency with Go, gRPC/Protobuf, relational stores, and observability tools.
Experience writing well-tested production code with strong review habits.
Comfort in regulated domains such as identity, access control, KYC/AML, or financial onboarding.
Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight.

Responsibilities

Own backend services moving institutional clients from application to first trade (onboarding, provisioning, KYC).
Automate onboarding including screening, risk scoring, and auto-provisioning.
Design and implement Organizations Service as the source of truth for client data and quality.
Collaborate with Product, Compliance, Onboarding Ops, Identity, and Prime teams to ship onboarding and access controls.
Shape the access-control stack (roles, permissions, policies) for Prime to avoid tickets.
Mentor engineers through design reviews, incident response, and operational excellence.
