Placements24 has an exciting fully remote senior role for an Automation Engineer focused on mining. You will design, implement and optimize automation systems, programs PLCs and SCADA, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust solutions worldwide.

The role requires 7–10 years in industrial automation, proficiency in Siemens/Allen‑Bradley PLCs, Wonderware or Ignition SCADA, and HMI design expertise. Remote work is supported with international scope.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering or related field.
• 7–10 years in industrial automation and control systems engineering.
• Experience with PLC programming (Siemens/Allen-Bradley) and SCADA (Wonderware/Ignition).
• Experience in HMI design and implementation.
• Familiarity with industrial protocols (Ethernet/IP/Profibus).
• Mining or heavy industry experience is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development and implementation of automation and control systems for mining equipment and processes.
• Program and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs and SCADA systems.
• Develop and maintain automation documentation (P&IDs, schematics, logic diagrams).
• Collaborate with engineering, operations and IT to define automation requirements.
• Oversee integration of new automation technologies and upgrades.
• Conduct performance analysis and identify improvements.
• Ensure safety standards compliance (IEC 61511).
• Provide remote technical support for automated mining operations.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• Proven experience with PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley) and SCADA systems (e.g., Wonderware, Ignition).
• Experience with HMI design and implementation.
• Familiarity with network protocols used in industrial automation (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profibus).
• Experience in the Mining sector or other heavy process industries is highly advantageous.
• Strong understanding of electrical systems, instrumentation, and control theory.
• Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and debugging skills.
• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote team.
