Job summary

Humana is seeking a Senior AI Software Engineer to build and scale LLM-powered features within clinical settings. You will design and implement backend services, evaluate model outputs, and contribute to AI infrastructure and MLOps, all while maintaining HIPAA-compliant practices.

The role emphasizes cross‑functional collaboration, autonomy in greenfield projects, and a focus on secure, scalable AI systems in a remote or distributed team environment.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in CS, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 5+ years software engineering experience, with 2+ years building production AI/ML systems.
• Hands‑on experience with large language models and orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex, or equivalent).
• Proficiency in Python, TypeScript and ML libraries (Hugging Face, PyTorch, scikit-learn, or similar).
• Experience building REST or GraphQL APIs that serve AI/ML model outputs.
• Solid understanding of RAG pipeline design and vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, pgvector, or similar).
• Experience building custom LLM and agent evals, including automated testing of model outputs, agent trajectories, and failure modes.
• Awareness of HIPAA requirements and secure handling of sensitive health data.

Responsibilities

• System Development: Build and maintain LLM-powered features in clinical settings.
• Model Evaluation: Implement evaluation frameworks for AI outputs and monitor quality in production.
• Backend Service Development: Build Python/Typescript backend services exposed via REST, GraphQL, and Websockets.
• Infrastructure and MLOps: Contribute to AI infrastructure design and deployment automation.
• HIPAA-Compliant Development: Ensure HIPAA standards and proper PHI handling.
• Technical Collaboration: Participate in architecture discussions and code reviews.
