Job summary

Humana is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to architect and own AI-powered systems, including LLMs, RAG pipelines, and multi-agent orchestration. You will collaborate with product managers, clinicians, and data stakeholders to deliver high-impact AI features while upholding HIPAA compliance and Responsible AI standards.

The role requires deep experience with large language models, LangChain/LlamaIndex, and production-grade tooling, delivering secure, scalable solutions across care delivery

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years software engineering, 4+ years in production AI/ML systems.
• Hands-on experience with large language models and orchestration frameworks.
• Strong Python and TypeScript skills with ML tooling expertise.
• Proven design/deployment of RAG pipelines and vector search.
• Knowledge of model fine-tuning (LoRA, RLHF, instruction tuning).
• Experience building custom LLM/agent evaluation frameworks at scale.
• Experience designing multi-agent AI systems and orchestration.
• Ownership of AI systems end-to-end from architecture to production.
• Understanding HIPAA/PHI handling and secure data practices.
• Strong written and verbal communication across audiences.
• Hands-on with AI development tools and LLM harnesses.

Responsibilities

• Architect and own end-to-end AI system design including LLMs and automation.
• Evaluate and guide fine-tuning of foundation models; establish evaluation frameworks.
• Collaborate with product, clinicians, and data leads to translate care workflows into AI features.
• Ensure HIPAA compliance and Responsible AI practices within all systems.
