Job summary

Twilio seeks a Sr AI Architect – Conversation AI to shape the future of customer engagement at scale. You will define long‑term ML/AI architecture, drive the ML/Ops roadmap, and mentor engineers while partnering with product teams.

This remote‑first role requires deep expertise in transformers, LLM orchestration, and context engineering across cloud platforms; you’ll transition research into production systems and influence Twilio's technical direction.

Qualifications

• 15+ years in software engineering with 6+ years in production-grade ML systems at platform level.
• Experience with ML Ops and LLM Ops patterns, including metrics, retraining loops, and monitoring at scale.
• Deep design, architecture, and deployment expertise in production ML/AI systems (transformers, LLM orchestration, embeddings, inference optimization, vector stores).
• Understanding of Context Engineering lifecycle including semantic retrieval and multi-turn state management.
• Strong cloud experience (AWS/GCP/Azure) with high-volume data stores.
• Excellent communication and collaboration; ability to mentor engineers and influence strategy.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive a long-term AI/ML architectural vision aligned with Twilio’s business goals.
• Own the strategic roadmap for Twilio’s ML/AI Ops platform and tooling.
• Evaluate and implement modern LLM architectures, RAG systems, and tooling frameworks.
• Lead architecture for agentic AI systems including orchestration, reasoning, tool usage, and grounding.
• Stay current with advancements in LLMs, agent frameworks, and AI infrastructure.
• Transition research concepts into production systems and guide cross-organizational initiatives.
• Collaborate with Product Management to translate roadmaps into technical milestones.
• Provide hands-on mentorship while setting strategic direction for the team.
