Job summary

Carrington Blake Recruitment is seeking a SEND Tribunal & Mediation Officer to manage SEND appeals and coordinate mediation for families, schools and the Local Authority. The role requires collaboration with parents, schools, legal representatives and internal teams.

The post holder will ensure responses are lawful and timely, provide guidance on tribunal procedures, and maintain comprehensive case records in a fully remote setting.

Qualifications

• Experience in SEND, education, legal, complaints, appeals, tribunal or dispute-resolution environments.
• Strong understanding of SEND legislation and SEND Code of Practice.
• Knowledge of SEND Tribunal procedures and mediation processes.
• Excellent written communication skills for formal case documentation.
• Strong verbal communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Experience managing complex and sensitive cases.
• Strong negotiation, mediation and conflict-resolution skills.
• Excellent organisation and time-management skills.
• Ability to manage competing deadlines and a substantial caseload.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of SEND Tribunal appeals from registration through to resolution or hearing.
• Coordinate mediation arrangements between parents/carers and the Local Authority.
• Gather, review and organise evidence from schools, educational professionals, social care and internal teams.
• Monitor deadlines and hearing dates to ensure timely compliance.
• Prepare case summaries, chronologies, statements and documentation.
• Liaise with legal representatives and professionals for tribunal hearings.
• Represent or support the Local Authority at SEND Tribunal hearings when required.
• Maintain accurate records of mediation outcomes and follow-up actions.
