Job summary

General Motors LLC is seeking a Security Software Engineer to join the Security Products Engineering team. You will design and implement security-focused software and services across GM, driving secure-by-default experiences and automation across pipelines.

You will mentor peers, review designs, and translate emerging threats into engineering roadmaps while collaborating with multiple GM teams to embed security into the software lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, or equivalent.
• 7+ years of experience as a software engineer with production systems.
• Proficiency in at least one modern language (Python/Go/Java/C++).
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools in daily workflows.
• Experience designing and operating services on major cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Hands-on with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Strong security knowledge: OAuth2/OIDC, SSO, RBAC/ABAC, encryption, secure coding.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain security-focused software components and services across GM.
• Develop automation frameworks and internal platforms for secure patterns.
• Integrate security controls into CI/CD pipelines and cloud workflows.
• Architect scalable security services and APIs (auth, policy evaluation, event ingestion).
• Collaborate with engineering teams to embed security requirements in designs.
• Perform secure code reviews, threat modeling, and design reviews.
• Build security telemetry systems: logging, metrics, alerting for detection and response.
• Contribute to incident response and post-incident reviews as an engineering owner.
• Stay current on threats and translate into actionable engineering roadmaps.
• Mentor engineers on secure coding, patterns, and security architecture.
