Job summary

NEI Electric Power Engineering is seeking an Entry-Level SCADA & Automation Engineer focused on oil & gas. You will design, implement, test, commission, and support SCADA and automation systems under the supervision of a Professional Engineer, with potential work across protection & control, electrical design, and power studies.

The role offers either remote work or in-office Lakewood, CO, with a salary range aligned to Denver market.

Qualifications

• BS in electrical engineering or engineering tech from an accredited institution.
• 3–8+ years of engineering or field experience in SCADA, automation, or protective relays.
• Experience configuring and commissioning SEL RTACs and SCADA systems.
• Experience with IEC 61850, DNP3, and Modbus protocols.
• Strong communication skills and ability to travel ~25%.

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, program, test, and commission SCADA systems, PLCs, RTACs, HMIs, protective relays, and industrial networking equipment.
• Develop RTAC logic, protocol conversion, data concentration, alarm management, and HMI visualization for oil & gas.
• Configure, integrate, and troubleshoot IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus and other SCADA protocols.
• Prepare detailed electrical power, protection & control designs including one-line diagrams and schematics.
• Support field startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and validation of SCADA and power systems.
• Prepare engineering deliverables: reports, calculations, specs, procedures, RFIs, and construction docs.
• Coordinate with clients, contractors, vendors, utilities and multidisciplinary teams.
• Review work for quality and compliance with standards.
• Lead or support project execution activities including scope, schedules, reviews, and client interface.
• Travel to field assignments, commissioning, and client meetings as required.
