Job summary

NEI Electric Power Engineering, Inc. in Lakewood, CO is seeking a mid-level SCADA & Automation Engineer in the Data Center group to design, analyze, and implement electrical power and control systems for client projects.

Responsibilities include setting up SEL equipment, programming SCADA/PLC systems, producing IEC61850/DNP3 configurations, creating technical documents, and ensuring code compliance. The role may require travel and offers a competitive salary plus benefits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology is required.
  • 2–5 years of relevant engineering or field experience.
  • FE certification preferred; ability to work in the United States.
  • Strong knowledge of medium/high voltage power and SCADA systems.
  • Experience with SEL equipment installation/configuration and RTAC is a plus.
  • Experience with IEC61850, DNP3, MODBUS, or other SCADA protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Set, test, wire, and install relaying and control systems (SEL equipment).
  • Program, install, and test SCADA/PLC systems, mainly SEL RTACs.
  • Create IEC61850/DNP3/MODBUS configurations and related documents.
  • Produce specifications, RFIs, and project studies; manage drawings.
  • Design electrical power systems: one-line/three-line diagrams, schematics, grounding, and equipment selection.
  • Conduct field testing/commissioning of SCADA and relay systems; provide field support.
  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, and team; travel as needed.

Job description

As a mid-level SCADA & Automation Engineer in the Data Center group, you will be responsible for engineering design, performing field work and analysis under the responsible charge of a Professional Engineer in a manner that provides the client with a quality deliverable that is on time and within budget.

Salary Range: $100,000 - $150,000 / year

The salary range above is based upon the Denver, Colorado labor market.

This opportunity is available to both local / in-office (Lakewood, CO) and full-time remote candidates.

  • Set, test, wire, and install relaying and control systems, specifically SEL equipment.
  • Program, installation, and testing of SCADA and PLC systems, primarily SELRTACs
  • Produce configuration files associated with IEC61850 (GOOSE), DNP3, or other SCADA protocols
  • Prepare a variety of documents and reports associated with projects including specifications, RFIs, studies
  • Perform detailed design of all aspects of electrical power systems to include one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control and relaying schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, grounding design, general arrangement, selection of equipment, writing of equipment specifications
  • Perform SCADA and relay field testing and commissioning services
  • Provide field assistance and troubleshooting for SCADA systems such as SEL RTAC, Ignition, or PLCs.
  • Checking the work of designers, drafters, and field service personnel for general quality and accuracy as required
  • Understanding and experience with applicable Codes and Standards such as NEC, NESC, and PRC
  • Mobilize and perform field assignments to commission, inspect, or troubleshoot substation control systems
  • Experience with grid connected or islanded microgrid control operation is a plus (generator controls, load balancing schemes, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned
Must Have
  • Education: Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution, electric power option preferred
  • Experience: 2 – 5 years of relevant engineering or field experience
  • Licensure: FE is preferred
  • Knowledge and familiarity with medium and high voltage power systems, with strong knowledge in SCADA
  • SEL equipment installation and configuration, RTAC experience is a plus
  • Experience with configuring, testing, and commissioning IEC61850, DNP3, MODBUS, and/or other SCADA protocols
  • Experience creating Network Architecture Diagrams
  • Experience with substation or data center medium voltage equipment is a plus
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD
  • Previous Interactions with clients, customers, contractors and others
  • Assist with client contacts and communication pertaining to specific assignments and meetings
  • Ability to travel periodically for weeks across states for field work as needed
  • Possesses effective written and oral communications skills
  • Good interpersonal and people skills
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting, and field work is also required.

Managerial Responsibilities

Must be able to lift 50lbs.
