Job summary

Extense is seeking a S1000D / IETM Technical Author to translate engineering data and SME notes into clear, structured content for aerospace manuals used in the field. You will author procedures, descriptive content, and IPD-related data modules, ensuring safe sequencing and proper tagging. The role supports remote work in the U.S.

with periodic site visits. Requires 5+ years in technical writing, experience with S1000D or XML schemas, and strong English.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in professional technical writing (3+ years in structured-content).
• Experience authoring procedural maintenance content for aircraft or similar.
• Experience with engineering drawings, schematics, SME notes.
• Knowledge of S1000D data-module structure and tagging.
• Experience with S1000D authoring tools (Arbortext, Oxygen, XMetaL).
• Excellent written English with precise procedural language.

Responsibilities

• Author and revise S1000D data modules (procedural, descriptive, fault-isolation).
• Translate changes and SME notes into maintenance procedures.
• Apply warnings, cautions, notes, tools, and references.
• Tag data modules with applicability/effectivity for variants.
• Coordinate with illustrators to validate figures and hotspots.
• Respond to review comments with SMEs and IETM Lead.
