Job summary

KACE is seeking a Linguist for Romani transcription to support sensitive law enforcement projects. This remote, part-time role involves real-time or recorded transcription, quality writing, and decoding slang and coded language for court-ready outputs.

The ideal candidate has Romani translation experience, strong English skills, and the ability to work up to 40 hours per week on assigned projects, including day or night shifts as needed. Applicants must be U.S.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum one year translation experience in Romani.
• Knowledge of Romani colloquialisms, slang terms, and regional expressions.
• Familiarity with SMS shorthand, social media terminology, and web chat communications.
• Excellent verbal and written skills in Romani and English.
• Ability to meet a language assessment (Listening/Speaking/Reading/Writing) in English and Romani.
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office.
• Typing speed of 45 words per minute.

Responsibilities

• Listen to live or recorded Romani and produce verbal and written synopses and transcriptions.
• Communicate pertinent information to law enforcement in a timely manner.
• Build and maintain a master list of slang terms and codes used by a group/organization for the project duration.
• Transcribe and translate calls and documents as assigned by the supervisor.
• Produce court-ready transcriptions in the required format.
• Operate government-provided software and equipment used at the assigned site.
• Maintain a daily productivity log.
