Job summary

Geisinger is seeking an RN Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Specialist to enhance physician documentation for accurate DRG assignment and severity assessment. You will collaborate with physicians, nurses and coding staff to improve documentation and ensure optimal care coding outcomes.

The role requires nursing licensure in Pennsylvania, a minimum of 3 years of nursing experience, and a strong understanding of anatomy and physiology to discuss clinical issues with physicians.

Qualifications

• Graduate from Specialty Training Program-Nursing (Required).
• Bachelor's Degree-Nursing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Act as liaison between clinical and coding functions.
• Educate staff on documentation for Revenue Management processes.
• Interact with physicians on documentation clarification and optimization.
• Analyze clinical information to drive System Case Mix Index.
• Review inpatient records within 24-48 hours for DRG assignment.
• Pursue subsequent reviews every 3 days to support DRG assignment.
• Formulate queries for missing or unclear documentation.
