Job summary

Merck is seeking a Regional Medical Scientific Director (RMSD) to lead scientific exchange with Urology SLs and to support clinical research and investigator-initiated trials. The role emphasizes non‑product scientific discussions, education, and data exchange without promotional claims.

The incumbent will engage SLs, review HQ education, and ensure alignment with GMSA strategy while traveling up to 50%. A doctoral degree and 3+ years in Oncology/Urology are required.

Qualifications

• Clinical (patient care) or research experience in assigned therapeutic area(s) beyond that obtained in the terminal degree program.
• Field-based medical science liaison (MSL) experience.
• A minimum of 3 years of therapeutic area experience in Oncology or Urology.
• Capable of conducting doctoral level discussions with key external stakeholders.
• Dedication to scientific excellence with a strong focus on scientific education and dialogue.
• Business and market knowledge.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and networking skills.
• Must possess a thorough comprehension of FDA, OIG, HIPAA and other ethical guidelines, laws, and regulations.
• Must be able to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a constantly changing environment.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, MS Teams, MS Copilot).
• Consistently adhere to field and corporate policies, and Global Medical Scientific Affairs (GMSA) strategy, including field SOPs, GCP guidelines, and administrative/operational responsibilities.
• Requires up to 50% overnight travel.

Responsibilities

• Develop professional relationships and engage with national and regional Urology SLs to share medical information.
• Conduct peer-to-peer scientific discussions and maintain a reliable presence with SLs.
• Address scientific questions and direct SL inquiries on issues outside RMSD scope to appropriate resources.
• Review HQ-directed education and training to maintain current knowledge of scientific and clinical environment.
• Liaison between scientific community and company to enhance understanding of trials and research studies.
• Identify barriers to patient enrollment and retention efforts and participate in site identification.
• Initiate discussions with SLs and potential investigators to align with research strategies and study concepts.
• Engage in scientific and medical meetings, prepare for congress activities, and staff exhibits as applicable.
• Gather feedback or data to inform medical affairs priorities and scientific needs.
