Job summary

Fermilab is seeking an RF Controls Engineer to research, design, develop, and test real-time DSP and control systems for accelerator LLRF applications. The role spans FPGA firmware development, SOC FPGA software in Linux, and scripting in Python, with MATLAB/Simulink used for design and verification.

You will coordinate manufacturing, installation, and testing to meet project specs, and collaborate across teams while traveling 1–2 times a year.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in EE/CE or related field.
  • At least 2 years FPGA programming experience.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Knowledge of circuit analysis and design, hardware/software.
  • Experience with FPGA firmware development is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Research, design, develop and test real-time DSP and control systems.
  • Model and simulate digital/analog circuits using design tools.
  • Coordinate manufacturing, installation, and testing activities.
  • Develop FPGA firmware using Quartus and Vivado.
  • Design, implement, maintain and operate scientific instruments and systems.
  • Develop SOC FPGA software/firmware in Linux.
  • Program engineering calculations and scripting in Python.
  • UI development for EPICS and LabVIEW for LLRF systems.
  • Utilize MATLAB, Simulink and logic simulators for design.
