SAFEbuilt is seeking a talented Residential Plans Examiner to join our Texas-based team as a remote professional. You will review residential plans for code compliance and collaborate with municipal staff on a variety of projects while enjoying the flexibility of remote work within Texas.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of residential plans examination experience, ICC Residential Plans Examiner (R3) certification, and strong knowledge of the IRC.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of residential plans examination experience
• ICC Residential Plans Examiner (R3) certification required
• Knowledge of IRC and local amendments
• Experience with plan reviews and code compliance

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive residential plan reviews for codes and regulations.
• Review architectural plans for new construction, additions, remodels.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal building codes and regulations.
• Review basic zoning requirements, including setbacks, height restrictions, lot coverage, and other applicable ordinances.
• Identify code deficiencies and prepare clear, detailed plan review comments outlining necessary corrections.
• Attend preconstruction conferences with contractors, developers, and municipal staff as needed.
• Provide technical direction and assistance to inspection personnel regarding residential construction and code compliance issues.
• Assess and resolve questions or concerns from clients, applicants, homeowners, designers, and contractors.
• Regularly interact with municipal clients and their staff to facilitate timely and accurate plan reviews.
• Attend meetings, educational seminars, and training sessions relating to residential building codes and construction practices.
