Job summary

Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine (HMSOM), a New Jersey nonprofit corporation, seeks a Residency Writing Coach to provide one-on-one virtual coaching for HMSOM students applying to Residency Programs. The role includes guiding applicants through narrative and structure to strengthen personal statements, preparing for sessions from outlines and drafts, and producing supplementary workshops.

Qualifications

• Masters degree required in Writing, English or related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of coaching and/or teaching writing.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient with Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Conducts one-on-one virtual coaching sessions with medical students for personal statements.
• Guides students through narrative and structural priorities to improve clarity and organization of writing.
• Prepares for sessions by reviewing outlines and rough drafts.
• Generates recorded workshops for student use.
• Assists students who experience writer's block with brainstorming sessions.
• Coaches on revisions based on feedback and recommendations.
• Maintains feedback communications per established practices.
• Creates and manages scheduling for appointments.
• Notes student progress on a shared HMSOM platform.
