Job summary

The Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) at the University of Virginia is seeking an experienced research scientist to work under Dr. Julie Cohen on grant-funded projects focused on teacher development.

You will lead research work, co-develop lab strategy, and coordinate activities across multiple streams. Opportunities to publish findings and receive targeted professional development aligned with career goals in teaching, research, or leadership in higher education are

Qualifications

Education: doctoral degree or master's degree with significant experience.
3–5 years teaching in PK-12 settings.
Experience collecting quantitative and qualitative data.
Designing research studies focused on teachers.
Developing manuscripts for publications.
Coordinating activities and developing strategy for a lab or center.

Responsibilities

Designing and validating measurement instruments and rubrics used to monitor teacher practice and program quality.
Coordinating data collection across multi-site, multi-institution partnerships.
Bridging qualitative and quantitative measurement approaches to assess implementation and effects of teacher-facing tools.
Translating large-scale policy or initiative goals into research questions and progress-monitoring systems.
Preparing reporting and materials for funders, state agency, and cross-sector partners.
Developing grant proposals, manuscripts, and memos.
