Qualifications

  • Engage teachers through modeling, observation, feedback, and problem-solving to ensure high-fidelity implementation.
  • Support data-collection activities, including administering assessments and scheduling.

Job description

The Center for the Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) in the School of Education at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for four Intervention Coach positions to support a multi‑part intervention project aimed at improving kindergarteners’ literacy skills and behavioral outcomes. The work will focus on coaching teachers participating in the study.

These positions require a hybrid approach with in‑person and virtual components and a possibility of fully remote work.

Responsibilities
  • Successfully complete extensive training on faithful implementation of the assigned project interventions.
  • Follow detailed manuals and participate in weekly supervision meetings.
  • Work bi‑weekly with teachers to provide high‑quality support on the assigned intervention following the teachers’ schedule.
  • Collaborate with teachers to review videotaped sessions of intervention implementation.
  • Engage teachers through modeling, observation, feedback, and problem‑solving techniques to ensure high‑fidelity implementation.
  • Support data‑collection activities, including administering assessments, collecting teacher forms, entering intervention data (attendance, dosage), and logistical scheduling.
Required Qualifications
  • Reliable transportation for attending in‑person trainings and any ongoing in‑person work.
  • A bachelor’s degree in social science, education, or a related field.
  • At least one year of experience in an early‑childhood environment.
  • Experience with coaching, consulting, technical assistance, and/or training adult educators and leaders in individual and group settings.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and access.
  • Excellent executive‑function skills: organization, time management, and the ability to shift focus between details and the big picture.
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Ability to collaborate closely with a team in a deadline‑driven environment.
  • Proficiency in using technology:
    • Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel)
    • Videoconferencing, teaching, or webinar tools (e.g., Zoom, Canvas)
    • Virtual platforms or storage (e.g., Google Docs, OneDrive)
Preferred Qualifications
  • A master’s degree in education, counseling, social work, psychology, or a related field (may substitute for some experience).
  • Experience in kindergarten literacy instruction.
  • Experience supporting teachers’ social‑emotional instruction.
  • Experience in collecting and maintaining records.
  • Experience with in‑person and virtual coaching or creating and facilitating online collaboration.
Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job occasionally requires traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.

These are part‑time wage positions not eligible for leave or other benefits. Mileage is reimbursed at the current GSA rate. The hourly rate is $20–$25, commensurate with experience. The position is available starting August 2026 through June 2027.
