Johns Hopkins University invites applications for a PREP Research Associate to support LPDT and related synchrotron experiments, and to analyze and organize resulting data with reproducible workflows. The role may be performed primarily remotely, with occasional travel to NIST in Gaithersburg, MD and to facilities such as APS and CHESS.

Qualifications

• PhD or current enrollment in a PhD program in additive manufacturing or related field.
• Hands-on experience with in-situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction and/or imaging experiments.
• Experience with beamtime preparation, setup, alignment, data acquisition and post-processing.
• Familiarity with laser-material interactions, laser powder bed fusion, or related processing.
• Proficiency in Python for scientific data analysis; MATLAB/Origin desirable.

Responsibilities

• Support LPDT experiment design, beamtime planning, hardware and testbed preparation, setup, alignment, execution, and documentation.
• Process and analyze in-situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction and imaging data from laser processing experiments.
• Correlate X-ray measurements with laser scan conditions and synchronized process data.
• Develop reproducible Python or MATLAB workflows for data preprocessing, calibration, QC, visualization and analysis.
• Organize large datasets and metadata, compare results, and prepare publication-ready figures.
