Job summary

Merck is seeking a Regional Medical Scientific Director to serve as a therapeutic and disease expert, providing balanced scientific information and engaging with national and regional Scientific Leaders. The role supports rheumatology and dermatology immunology programs and requires residence within the Upper Midwest/central US territory.

You will build relationships, facilitate data exchange, and guide investigators through company-sponsored studies while upholding GCP and SOPs.

Qualifications

• PhD, PharmD, DNP, DO, or MD
• Proven experience of at least 3 years in a relevant therapeutic area beyond degree program
• Ability to conduct doctoral-level discussions with external stakeholders
• Dedication to scientific excellence with focus on education and dialogue
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and networking skills
• Strong knowledge of FDA, OIG, HIPAA, and related guidelines
• Ability to adapt in a dynamic environment
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• Familiarity with virtual meeting platforms
• Experience shaping environment, culture, and business landscape
• Commitment to GMSA policies and SOPs, GCP compliance

Responsibilities

• Develops professional relationships with national and regional SLs to provide company-approved medical and scientific information
• Conducts peer-to-peer scientific discussions and maintains a medical contact within the company
• Directs inquiries on issues outside Regional Medical Scientific Director scope to appropriate resources
• Maintains current knowledge of scientific and clinical AOIs for therapeutic areas
• Initiates discussions with SLs and investigators to align with research strategies
• Enhances understanding of investigator-sponsored research goals
• Identifies barriers to patient enrollment and retention for studies
• Recommends study sites and investigators for phase II–IV programs and conducts SIVs
• Leads protocol collaboration with GCTO
• Addresses investigator questions about company-sponsored studies
• Engages in scientific congresses and medical meetings for data exchange
• Gathers feedback to understand medical needs and priorities
• Leads by example as a role model for workforce development
