Job summary

Merck is seeking a Regional Medical Scientific Director to lead scientific exchange and research activities for Rheumatology and Dermatology Immunology. The role involves engaging with national and regional scientific leaders to share approved information and address scientific questions.

Responsibilities include coordinating with GCSA/GCTO, supporting investigator-initiated studies, and ensuring compliance with GCP and regulatory standards. Remote work is available in the U.S.

Qualifications

• PhD, PharmD, DNP, DO, or MD required.
• 3+ years of relevant therapeutic area experience beyond degree.
• Ability to conduct doctoral-level discussions with external stakeholders.
• Strong focus on scientific education, dialogue, and compliance with GCP/regulations.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and networking skills.
• Knowledge of FDA, HIPAA, and related industry guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Develops professional relationships with national/regional Scientific Leaders for access to approved scientific information.
• Conducts peer-to-peer scientific discussions and maintains medical contacts within the company.
• Addresses scientific questions and directs SL inquiries to appropriate resources.
• Maintains current knowledge of AOI in therapeutic areas and acts as role model for the team.
• Initiates discussions with SLs/investigators to align with research strategies and study concepts.
• Identifies barriers to patient enrollment and retention for trials.
• Recommends study sites/investigators for phase II‑IV programs and conducts SIVs.
• Protocol lead responsibilities in collaboration with GCTO and supports investigator participation.
