Job summary

Manulife Forest Management in New Hampshire and Maine is seeking an experienced Area Forester to lead timberland management, focusing on northern hardwoods with some spruce/fir and mixed stands, applying both even- and uneven-aged silviculture.

You will oversee budgeting, safety, contractor supervision, stakeholder relations, community outreach, and timber harvesting operations while promoting compliance with environmental standards and fiduciary duties.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in forestry or equivalent experience.
• Minimum five years of career experience with organizational and team supervision desirable.
• Proficient in Northern Hardwood, Spruce, Fir and mixed cover type forest management, including cost and return analysis, harvest administration and timber marketing.
• Valid driver’s license and be insurable with the company’s commercial carrier.
• Maintain State of New Hampshire Licensed Forester status.
• Strong computer and analytical skills, including Microsoft Office365 and GIS.
• Service oriented with fiduciary perspective.
• Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders and communicate forest management objectives.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain service-oriented relationships with MIMT and MIMFM personnel and clients.
• Follow stewardship policies to meet BMPs and certification standards.
• Lead stakeholder engagement and community outreach within the management area.
• Support budgeting and planning processes for all forest activities.
• Provide leadership and supervision of area staff and consultants.
• Oversee safety procedures for personnel and assets.
• Direct timber harvesting operations including planning, layout, and contracts.
• Market timber products and explore new markets and logistics opportunities.
• Prescribe silvicultural operations and oversee road building/maintenance.
• Maintain Conservation Easement compliance and participate in monitoring meetings.
• Lead communications for stakeholder engagement and public affairs.
