Job summary

Manulife Forest Management seeks a forester to manage New Hampshire timberlands with emphasis on northern hardwoods, plus spruce/fir and mixed stands. Responsibilities include harvest planning, field inspection, timber marketing, and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety standards.

The role requires forestry degree and some supervisory experience; GIS and timberland accounting skills are valued.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in forestry or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 1 year career experience with organizational and team supervision experience desirable.
  • Proficient in Northern Hardwood, Spruce, Fir and mixed cover type forest management, including cost/return analysis and harvest administration.
  • Proficient in leadership principles and a team-oriented work environment.
  • Knowledgeable in forest stewardship, safety concepts for timberland operations, and employee/community relations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a strong service-oriented relationship with MIMT and MIMFM personnel and fiduciary obligations.
  • Follow stewardship policies to meet/ exceed state BMP for Water Quality, Soils, and Invasive Species and SFI/FSC standards.
  • Provide oversight and implementation of safety procedures for area personnel, contractors, and assets.
  • Assist in management direction for area operations including planning, budgeting, GIS updates and quarterly reports.
  • Administer harvesting operations including planning, field inspection, timber cruising, timber sale analysis, and contracting.
  • Assist in marketing wood products and exploring new market opportunities.
