Job summary

Atlassian is hiring a Principal ML Engineer for the Rovo + AI team to advance AI-powered experiences and the evaluation of Rovo Chat. You will lead and ship scalable ML systems, while mentoring engineers and aligning research with product outcomes.

You’ll work hands-on while guiding cross-functional initiatives, balancing quality, latency, safety, and cost to deliver measurable improvements for millions of users.

Qualifications

• Architected and shipped large-scale ML/AI systems delivering customer impact.
• Deep experience with LLM-powered products, agentic systems & evaluation.
• Strong production engineering skills in a modern ML stack.

Responsibilities

• Set technical vision for measuring and improving Rovo Chat quality.
• Build scalable ML and evaluation systems (datasets, simulators, judges, experiments).
• Advance agentic capabilities across reasoning, planning, tool use, memory, long-horizon execution.
• Close loop between evaluation and product impact; identify failures and intervene.
