Job summary

Office of the Capital Collateral Regional Counsel–Northern Region seeks an Assistant Capital Collateral Regional Counsel to represent indigent Florida death row inmates in postconviction proceedings challenging convictions and sentences. The role involves investigating, filing, and litigating state postconviction motions in circuit courts, as well as pursuing appeals to the Florida Supreme Court and federal habeas petitions.

The candidate should be a graduate of an accredited U.S.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited U.S. law school and member in good standing with the Florida Bar.
• Excellent writing skills.
• Former public defender experience with courtroom and/or appellate experience preferred.
• Capital postconviction work experience preferred for remote work consideration.

Responsibilities

• Represent indigent Florida death row inmates in postconviction proceedings.
• Investigate, file, and litigate state postconviction motions in circuit courts.
• Handle appeals to the Florida Supreme Court and federal habeas corpus petitions.
• Collaborate with investigators, forensic experts, clients, and witnesses.
