Job summary

City of Fredericksburg Department of Social Services seeks a Benefit Programs Specialist to manage an ongoing caseload for SNAP and medical assistance programs (F&C, ABD, LTC). You will determine eligibility, interview applicants, complete forms, and monitor benefits, delivering counseling and case management.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of experience working with the general public in a local department of social services, or equivalent education and experience.
• Must pass a criminal background check including Virginia Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry.
• A valid state driver’s license that meets the standards for the City of Fredericksburg.

Responsibilities

• Manage an ongoing caseload of SNAP and medical assistance programs including F&C, ABD, and LTC.
• Determine program eligibility and explain benefits to applicants; assist with forms and enrollment.
• Interview applicants and monitor ongoing eligibility; provide counseling and case management.
• Telework options up to three days a week after training.
