Canonical is hiring a Software Engineer to develop, test and release improvements to the Ubuntu on public clouds. You will work with distributed teams worldwide to ensure high quality Python on Linux tooling and cloud images, collaborating across Canonical and partners to deliver robust, scalable software.

The role emphasizes quality, open source contributions, Debian packaging familiarity, and a commitment to supporting a wide range of environments, from cloud to on‑prem.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM or similar degree.
• Extensive experience with Python on Linux.
• Interest in Ubuntu Linux systems administration, CI, Debian packaging or cloud work.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate proactively with a distributed team.
• Write high quality Python code with tests to create new features.
• Debug issues and fix them with high quality code.
• Review code produced by other engineers.
• Discuss ideas and investigate good solutions.
• Work from home with global travel 2–4 weeks per year for events.
