Job summary

Supabase is seeking an SDK Engineer - Python to own how developers talk to Supabase from Python. You’ll work with the SDK team and other product teams to make the Python SDK a library developers genuinely enjoy using.

The role focuses on building a high-quality, fully typed SDK with async and sync APIs, authored in the open, with contributions from the community. Fully remote with global opportunity.

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of Python typing (generics, protocols, TypedDict).
• Authoring or maintaining a library with public API.
• Maintaining open-source projects: triage issues, release automation, changelogs, and semver.
• Fluent in asyncio; support both sync and async callers.
• Packaging Python libraries (pyproject.toml, wheels) and dependency policies.
• Strong unit tests and regression testing discipline.
• Excellent written communication for docs and RFCs.
• Autonomy to identify and ship important work.
• Clear communication across technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience in async or distributed teams.

Responsibilities

• Build and evolve our Python SDK across database, auth, storage, realtime and functions with both sync and async APIs.
• Start new features and justify missing capabilities; own the roadmap.
• Work in the open: triage inbound issues, review contributions, maintain CI and release automation.
• Own the typing experience to keep autocomplete and static analysis correct.
• Ensure compatibility across Python versions, async frameworks, workers, and notebooks.
• Work on realtime: websocket connections, reconnection, and presence semantics.
• Reflect platform changes in the SDK and changelog.
• Design in public: RFCs, migration guides, release notes.
• Make the SDK legible to AI coding agents.
