Job summary

Canal & River Trust is seeking a Property Litigation Lawyer to join its Legal team. The role handles a broad range of property disputes across the Trust’s estate, providing pragmatic advice and risk-based solutions to protect assets and interests.

You will work with stakeholders, external advisers and third parties, delivering timely drafting and court documentation while ensuring compliance with statutory powers and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Qualified lawyer with 5+ years' property litigation experience.
• Strong drafting and communication skills.
• Experience liaising with stakeholders.
• Experience in managing property disputes and litigation processes.

Responsibilities

• Advise on property law disputes across the Trust's estate.
• Represent disputes with adjoining landowners under supervision by the Senior Litigation Lawyer.
• Advise on rights and duties in respect of land under historic waterway enabling legislation and enforcement of statutory powers.
• Liaise with external solicitors to facilitate effective conduct of property litigation matters.
• Draft letters before action, claims, witness statements, applications and other court documents, and compile court bundles for issue at court and service on Defendants under supervision.
• Work with the Trust’s Claims Handler in relation to property law claims for third party loss.
