Job summary

Canal & River Trust is seeking a Civil & Structural Design Engineer to design repairs for historic waterways. You will prepare specifications, brief internal crews, and coordinate with contractors and consultants to deliver safe, durable solutions.

The role focuses on efficient, innovative engineering for conservation and enhancement across multiple hubs, with occasional travel to sites and hubs in London, Wales, and the South West.

Qualifications

• Civil engineering qualification or equivalent.
• ICE/IStructE membership.
• Proof of CPD.
• Awareness of environmental considerations in civil design.
• Practical experience in civil design and construction, preferably in a water environment.
• Knowledge of historic infrastructure in water environments.
• AutoCAD experience.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and develop design and construction solutions with best value and whole-life costs.
• Prepare repair specifications, works packages and drawings addressing asset defects.
• Act as Designer under CDM 2015 and manage risk.
• Collaborate with internal teams, specialists and external stakeholders for successful delivery.
• Undertake site inspections to determine the best engineering solution and ensure works meet specs.
• Contribute to Design Guidance, Standards and Specifications.
• Provide temporary works designs to support in-house teams.
