Job summary

AMG & Associates, Inc. is seeking an experienced Processing Archivist on a full-time contract to organize, describe, preserve, and provide access to archival collections.

You will collaborate with archivists, librarians, researchers, records managers, and internal teams to ensure materials are accurately processed and accessible. The role involves accessioning, arrangement, finding aids, metadata, and preparation for digitization, with strict adherence to standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in History, Archival Studies, Library Science, Information Science, Records Management, or a related field.
• 3+ years of professional archival processing or related experience.
• Strong understanding of archival arrangement, description, and preservation.
• Experience with finding aids, inventories, catalog records, or metadata.
• Familiarity with digitization workflows and preservation procedures.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.

Responsibilities

• Assess, organize, arrange, and describe archival materials.
• Process materials from accessioning through final storage.
• Develop finding aids, inventories, catalogs, and metadata.
• Apply archival standards to ensure consistent documentation.
• Evaluate preservation needs and storage conditions.
• Maintain collection contents, access restrictions, and actions.
• Support digitization by preparing materials and verifying metadata.
• Maintain archives databases and management systems.
• Coordinate with teams to support access and research.
• Assist with acquisition, accessioning, and transfer of collections.
• Ensure materials are stored and processed per policies.
• Identify restricted or sensitive materials and escalate.
• Assist audits and preservation projects.
• Identify workflow improvements in processing and metadata quality.
• Complete projects on time and within deadlines.
